Art: Home Design

The kids and I enjoy browsing magazines for interior design ideas and just looking at the architecture of various homes in general. For this months art unit, I decided it would be fun to focus on designing our own cozy spaces in various ways.

The following art projects were created by Art with Mrs. E. I love how her art guides were very easy to follow and the end product is something you feel confident in.

To welcome in the cozy winter and festive holidays, we created brownstones, row homes, town homes, whatever you want to call it. They reminded us of the novel The Vanderbeekers.

Another week, we focused more on the design of our own little town and what businesses we would love to be surrounded by. What could be more fun than walking outside your home and being greeted by a cafe, book shop, or plant shop!

This activity had us seeing the Big City Picture with skyscrapers upon skyscrapers. We water-colored each building with colors that complimented the next. The fire escapes, picture windows, steeples, gingerbread styled roofing really brought them to life.

This was not an activity from TPT, but rather something I saw online and really loved. We gathered piles of magazines and a simple white envelope. We cut the envelope along its edges to open it up and gave ourselves a grand entrance to the inside of the home. On the backside, we created a backyard we'd love to chill in. There was a lot of trashing of ideas after thinking something might fit perfectly, but they turned out to be really cool.
