We read five top notch short stories this semester including The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry, The Invalid by Mark Twain, The Lumber Room by Saki, and Lady, or the Tiger by Frank Stockton.
While all of them focus on character and behavior, some are sillier than the others. They all, however, are thought-provoking, allowing the reader to wonder what they would do in the interesting situations presented.
