Six Word Memoirs

Maybe your kids love to share but sometimes aren't too wordy about it. Or they love to tell you every detail! Either way, this activity is perfect for them!

The kids picked three significant events in their lives and summarized them into a six-word memoir to kick off their personal narrative essays.

They teach students to be concise but thoughtful. It forces them to focus on the main points of an event in a creative way. Students normally love this challenge! It is also a great way to ponder up a HOOK for a personal narrative. They tell the reader what's up without telling them the details.

One of my kiddo's examples was:

Chatty girls like coffee & tea.

It was brilliantly written because it describes her and her love of Gilmore Girls, AND the tea points to both the beverage and gossip. In six short words, she made a big statement.
